Greek Mythology: From The Iliad To The Fall Of The Last Tyrant

The Acropolis of Athens

The Acropolis of Athens is one of the most distinct landmarks in the world. The word Acro-Polis simply means High-City and most ancient Greek cities had some sort of fortified hill that would qualify as an acropolis. The ruins of the Parthenon (a temple for the goddess Athene) are magnificent! The other buildings (also in ruins) give you a feel for the grandeur that this stone plateau once represented.
