The Agora of Athens

The Agora of ancient Athens was, in many ways, the center of the city’s social and political life ... it was not just a marketplace for food and other commodities, the Agora served as the focal point of political and social thought ... Plato walked these pathways, politicians wooed their opponents here and people came from all parts of the city to buy and sell their wares ... the sense of history permeates the ground. The Stoa is perhaps the most distinct building in the Agora ... it has been rebuilt with an attempt to give it the look and feel of the ancient building it once was ... they succeeded magnificently! The Temple of Hephaistos is the most impressive original structure which is still standing ... it seems only fitting that the god of artifacts and craft should have his temple survive the thousands of years since its construction.
