The Agora of Athens

The Agora

The face of Triton ... a son of Poseidon, lord of the Sea, and the Nereid, Amphitrite ... here we can only see his face but he is usually represented with the head and body of a man with the tail of a fish. Triton played a role in the adventures of Ieson (Jason) and the Argonauts and his gift to the Argonauts of a magical clod of dirt caused the island of Thera to rise from the sea.
