Transport amphora were used to ship oil, food, and wine. There are numerous examples of transport amphora because they were so common and survived in subterranean storerooms and sunken merchant ships. These particular amphorae are from the Hellenistic period (300-100 BCE) and were found in a tomb on the island of Cyprus.
