The Plaka district of Athens is a marvel of confusion and quaint charm ... the narrow streets and pedestrian walkways meander through a maze of shops and restaurants with no apparent plan or logic ... you can buy plumbing supplies or very expensive jewelry within a few blocks of each other. My street map was utterly useless in the Plaka ... it’s best to just wander around and see what you can find ... when you want to leave, just ask directions to the nearest Metro station or the Acropolis. This picture was taken from my table at an outdoor cafe ... as you can see, motorbikes can go anywhere they want ... at first this seems strange and downright dangerous but after a few days in Athens you will come to accept their presence as a fact of city life.
