A large district on the Peloponnesian Peninsula.
During the Trojan War, Argos was under the dominion of the Achaian commander, Diomedes. Tydeus, father of Diomedes, became a wealthy and respected man after he left Aitolia and settled in Argos. Diomedes inherited sovereignty of Argos after Tydeus was killed at Thebes in Boeotia.
