A city in the domain of Nestor.
During the Trojan War, King Nestor of Pylos commanded the Akhaian (Achaian) soldiers from the Peloponnesian Peninsula, including the men from Dorion.
A Thrakian minstrel named Thamyris encountered the Muses at Dorion. The Muses were the goddesses of the creative arts. They bestowed their blessings on worthy mortals but demanded humility.
Thamyris forgot the source of his talent and inspiration. He began to brag about his musical skills and boasted that his abilities surpassed those of the Muses. The Muses confronted Thamyris at Dorion and punished him by taking away his voice and memory.
