A city in Messenia in the domain of the Achaian (Achaean) commander Nestor.
Often called Gerenian Nestor, King Nestor of Pylos commanded of the Achaian soldiers from a large portion of the Peloponnesian Peninsula. The exact meaning of epithet Gerenian Nestor has been debated since the time of the geographer, Strabo (first century CE). One plausible explanation would be a reference to the Messenian city Gerenon, which was in Nestor's domain.
