Helike
Helice

A city in the domain of Agamemnon.

Agamemnon, commander-in-chief of the Achaian army at Troy, mustered troops from throughout the Aigialos,1 including the cities of Helike, Aigion, Araithyrea, Gonoessa, Hyperesia, Kleonai, Korinth, Mykenai, Orneiai, Pellene, and Sikyon.

The goddess Hera reminded her brother Poseidon that his support of the Achaians would be a fitting tribute to the people of Helike who worshiped him and offered sacrifices in his honor.

1. The Aigialos once encompassed all the land that came to be known as Achaia.
