Minyeios River
Minyeius River

A river on the Peloponnesian Peninsula.

Nestor of Pylos recalled waiting by the Minyeios River, anticipating an attack by the Epeians.1 Nestor was camped with his father's army where the Minyeios emptied into the sea, near the city of Arene.

The exact location of the Minyeios River and Arene have yet to be determined.

The Minyeios River was renamed Anigrus and that name too has faded from the maps. Τhe name Minyeios might possibly be linked to settlers who came with Chloris, Nestor's mother, from Minyeian Orchomenοs, or to the Minyans, descendants of the Argonauts. These people were expelled from the island of Lemnos, settled briefly in Lakedaemon, then moved into Triphylia and lived near Arene.

1. The people of Elis were called Epeians and Eleans; the Epeians preceded the Eleans as inhabitants of Elis.
