Oichalia

A city in the domain of Podaleirios and Machaon.

During the Trojan War, The Achaian soldiers from Oichalia, Ithome, and Trikke were commanded by Podaleirios and Machaon, sons of the renowned physician, Asklepios.

A minstrel referred to as Thamyris the Thracian offended the Muses while traveling through Oichalia. The Muses were the goddesses of the creative arts—nine daughters of the god Zeus and the goddess Mnemosyne (Memory). When Thamyris bragged that his singing abilities surpassed those of the Muses, they punished him by taking away his voice and memory.
