Pereia

A district noted for its superior horses.

  Homer, the author of the Iliad, asked the Muses1 which of the Achaian horses were the best. The Muses inspired him to say that the horses of Eumelos, grandson of Pheres, were best by far because they were bred by the god Apollon at Pereia.

1. Muses—goddesses of the creative arts; the nine daughters of Zeus and Mnemosyne (Memory).
