While I was in Greece in June 2005, I visited the islands of Aigina, Poros, and Hydra, which are located in the Saronic Gulf. Aigina is easily accessible from Athens ... Poros and Hydra are very close to the Peloponnesian Peninsula. Aigina is the largest of the three islands but Hydra is by far the most charming. The waters around Greece are peppered with islands—over three thousand—some, like Aigina, have been continually populated since before 1000 BCE and other smaller islands are simply outcroppings of stone that only serve as navigational references and hazards.
